A Smile In the Dark
I usually don’t share any of my writings other than my lyrics (that might change soon) because most of them are stream of consciousness, unedited, jumbled thoughts. But after yesterday’s tragic events (both in Connecticut and China), I remembered a little poem I wrote late one night. I thought i’d share that with you. I don’t know if it’s any good or not, but hey, here’s to living a little
A Smile In The Dark
What hope is left when sorrow’s storm
erodes the shores
When evening tides are cast aside
by the bidding of an angry sky
What hope is left when joy is defeated
and all her veiled maids retreated
When thunder sounds the end
of walls that have stood from the beginning
When children beg for death
and all men see is darkness
Brave souls are cast aside
and wisdom is struck with blindness
What then can good men do
but turn and run, to flee in fear
to let go of all sanity
forsake all vanity
To fear, good men must bow
To fear
To end
This cannot go on
For home is never gone
Sun sets, but rises anew
Darkness, driven out with kindness
For hope, a smile in the dark

“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery-celebrate what Jean-Luc Godard said: ‘It’s not where you take things from-it’s where you take them to.’” — Jim Jarmusch (via imfantasyparade)
